To design and convert a 250 year old stone barn / 100 year old brick extension to an off grid 4 bedroom luxury family home along with a new build garage / workshop in keeping with the existing building. The scope encompassed the design, planning application and process, build control and regulations, the planning and scheduling of both finances and timing, project management, and the procurement of all materials along with using the most modern methods available. The layout was to take advantage of the impeccable views over the Yorkshire Dales countryside encompassing AONB and national park.
Whilst retaining its original character, the property was to possess modern amenities required by a family such as pre-wired in ceiling media and programmable lighting systems, plumbed in internal vacuum system along with a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery and air filtration. The property remains off grid and therefore required particularly high levels of insulation to assist in the property using reliable sustainable energy solutions was required. This was achieved with a wind turbine, bore hole and biomass boiler to support the underfloor heating system.
Our home has been completed to a very high standard, using local crafts and trades people. The team have engineered a home that is beautiful in its simplicity and practical in its function. Thanks to the commitment of all at Blaithwaite Developments, this project was completed ahead of schedule and on budget.
Blaithwaite Homes are offering Willow Tree Barn and The Old Shippon for sale as ultimate self-build projects. With this project we aim to combine the benefits of a self build project, where the home owner can specify and configure their new home before it is built, with the benefits of buying a completed new build home.
